Melbourne

Melbourne, the capital of Victoria and a cultural hub, is known for the good things in life - fashion, food, entertainment and sport. Known as a style-setter, Melbourne is home to some of the best shopping and nightlife in Australia, a non-stop programme of film and food festivals, cutting edge design and architecture, major art exhibitions and musical extravaganzas. Whether you’re searching for haute couture or vintage clothing, souvenirs or sparkling chardonnay, chic bars, clubs or jazz venues, Melbourne has it all.

The city is famous for its crowd-pleasing events – from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, the Melbourne Fashion Festival and Spring Racing Carnival.

Melbourne loves its sport and every year plays host to the Australian Grand Prix, the Australian Open Tennis, the Boxing Day Test Match and the Aussie Rules Grand Final.  Melbourne is famous for its innovative event venues and is the only city in the world with five world-class sporting facilities on the fringe of its Central Business District. All are linked to a comprehensive public transport network. If tickets are scarce, make your way to Federation Square in the city centre to catch all the action of major events on the live site big screen.

Sport Lived offers an extensive range of sporting programmes in Melbourne. People can coach summer sports such as cricket, tennis and rowing in schools in Melbourne between October – December or January – March.  Alternatively people can coach football, hockey and netball between April – June.

Melbourne is also a great city in which to play sport. During the Australian summer, Melbourne is a brilliant place to play cricket, tennis and to row. There are lots of quality cricket clubs located close to the city centre which are easy to get to on the excellent tram and train system. Rowing is also very good in Melbourne with some of Australia’s best clubs located on the banks of the Yarra River opposite Federation Square.  People can also play hockey, netball and football in Melbourne between March and August.
